We had a tremendously successful congregational gathering following worship Sunday! There were several new faces as well as those who have attended other gatherings. Our work centered on catching new attendees up on the process so far and doing the brainstorming work around our strengths, our needs, and the needs of our neighborhood (the area within a 2-mile radius).
The strengths highlighted included: our congregation, our building, our campus, our worship space, our tenacity, and more. Our needs included: more resources to care for property and finance, programs, a mission, and more. The needs of our community included: food support, daycare, worship services, economic support, and more. This was all brainstorming so no idea was rejected.
Moving forward to our August meeting, we will need to do the hard work of drawing down what we can do, what God's calling us to do, and what our community needs for us to do, into a mission and vision which moves us as a body to do the work of Christ. So, now is the time to talk to and with each other about these ideas. Pick up the phone, meet each other for breakfast, linger before or after worship and talk to someone about what the mission and vision of Milner should be. God works through community and this decision is not for one person or even one Session to solely decide. We need and God uses your voice as part of this process.
