So, by now most of us have heard in scripture something to the effect, "the old men dream dreams and the young men shall see visions." We hear these lines repeated through the prophets, the Gospels, and Acts. They are a part of the gathered community in Christ response to God's on-going, revealing, redemptive work in the Kingdom. Not confined to males only, we can say with certainty that women too experience the revelations of God as witnessed in Scripture by Deborah, Miriam, Lydia, Phoebe or many more. God speaks to us, not always as a conversation, but sometimes in sweeping designs and "what ifs." These divine disclosures catch us by surprise, lift us up, and sweep us away into the unfolding mysteries of what God would have us be and do.
Such is the moment for Milner...moving through this year together we will dream dreams and see visions together. Some will move us and some will not. Throughout each step we will pray for guidance as to what God is leading us toward. After this months conversations on Thursday, June 22 at 6:30pm we will finally be ready for more conversations about mission and vision which will take place in July and August. Those conversations will require our willingness to see as God sees while we explore the future for Milner. What is God ready to do in our midst? What is God wanting us to be for in this project of building God's Kingdom? We will not be asking questions like "What makes sense?" or "What can we do with the resources we have?" Because questions like those are not guided by faith but by pragmatism. And, pragmatism is not always the way in which God moves in and through the church.
