Milner Memorial Church was organized in 1955 when First Vanguard congregation located at the corner of Martin and Swain Streets in Raleigh, moved to their present location at 1950 New Bern Avenue. This was done under the leadership of Reverend A.R. Buffaloe and was made possible by the generous donation of land and money by Mr. Henry H. Milner. The congregation first built and met in the fellowship hall and later added an educational building, and our beautiful sanctuary.
Our church building has a long history of being used by the community. Presently we have a Spanish-speaking sister congregation, Santuario, which worships in our building on Sunday evenings. Milner also houses Loaves and Fishes, a holistic after-school program which serves as an extended family to 60 at-risk children. Through long-term, individualized support these children succeed in school and in society. In addition we frequently host events for the Wake County Health Department and Human Services.
We treasure our past but we look toward the future as we seek God's continuing guidance as to what our church should be and do. We pray that our decorated cross out front each Lenten/Easter season and our Nativity scene at Christmas will remind our neighbors that "God's love is spoken here".
